- What does IT Advisory involve?
- IT Advisory is independent CTO advisory in a fixed monthly rhythm. You get an experienced sparring partner at executive level who knows your business, understands your IT environment and is not tied to any vendor. It works as a fixed monthly meeting, plus direct access in between when you want to talk something through. We discuss ongoing decisions, review vendor proposals, contribute to the roadmap and flag risks before it is too late. Not a replacement for your IT department, but an advisor at a level often missing internally.
- Which organizations is this suitable for?
- IT Advisory is suitable for SME-plus organizations with growth ambitions where the director or owner is still at the helm and there is no in-house CTO. Typically between 25 and 250 employees, with IT decisions that have direct impact on operations. Think of a manufacturing company facing an ERP migration, a service provider weighing a cloud choice, or a family business that wants to become data-driven. For very small organizations it is usually too heavy; for large organizations with their own CIO it is often unnecessary.
- How does this differ from an interim CTO?
- An interim CTO is scheduled full-time or part-time, takes over operational tasks and is responsible for the IT department. IT Advisory is deliberately lighter. We do not take an operational role, we do not run a team and we do not require a mandate. We are there to think along with decisions that matter to you. That fits better with organizations where leaders want to keep control themselves but are looking for an experienced technical sparring partner. No long-term hiring, no overhead, just expertise on call.
- How often do we meet?
- Standard is a fixed monthly meeting of one to one and a half hours, in person or via video. In addition, short lines in between: a message, a quick call, a review of a vendor proposal. Some clients need nothing for a week and have three quick questions the next. The rhythm follows your reality, not a contract carved in stone. We schedule important decisions for the monthly meeting, and pick up urgent matters directly.
- What if I have an urgent question in between?
- Call or email Herman directly. For active clients there is no queue and no ticket system. Did a quote come in that you want reviewed quickly? Forward it, you will get an initial response within a day. Is a vendor coming in for a meeting where you want a second pair of ears? We join in if the calendar allows. The whole point of IT Advisory is that it is there when you need it, not only at the next scheduled meeting.
- How long does an engagement run?
- There is no fixed minimum term and no long-running contract. We work on a monthly rhythm that you can cancel whenever you want. In practice, most engagements continue for several years because the value grows as we get to know your organization and your decisions better. Some clients use it intensively during a transformation period and then scale back to minimal. It adapts to your phase.
- Can you also help with assessing vendor proposals?
- Yes, that is one of the most requested elements. We read quotes with you, ask the questions you may not know to ask yourself, and give an independent judgment on scope, price and risk. Because we sell no licenses and are not tied to fixed partners, we can be honest about what we see. We have extensive experience with ERP, BI, integration and cloud proposals, and we know where the usual pitfalls lie in proposals that look fine at first glance.
